Comments

Thanks Paul and Chuck for your comments. I knew there would be someone out there that would be able to relate to Ryan's expeience in the Army. He is proud of what he is doing and Tom and I are proud of him too.

Weekend of March 28

We, at the Parmenter House, had a great weekend. Caroline and Brian came in Friday night. Ella stayed the night also, because Keaton was here. Keaton and Ella had a fine time all weekend playing together. Nate too. They all play real well together. Each with their own personalities. I love to watch them interact.
Caleb, of course, is above all the baby stuff, but he is good to all of them.

Caroline and Brian went to a wedding Saturday, but were back in the evening. We all had brunch here this morning.( a good time) Paul and I had a pretty good nap this afternoon. Tomorrow,
we clean the basement. It is suppose to rain again, so there will be no working outside. I am also going to finally finish the upstairs bathroom. I got a lot done last week and actually only have a bit left to do.

We had Sara's kids Saturday night also while they went to a dinner meeting which Tony MCed. He has done this for three years now. He is asked a lot to MC meeting and dinners. If I were him I would start charging for services rendered. Bill Clinton does and makes a fortune. What is good for the democrat is good for the republican, and Tony is probably a better speaker, and has never had to explain why he spends so much time in a coat closet.

I am going swim suit shopping this week, every one pray for me. I am forever grateful that companies are now making suits in mix and match so that a person can buy one size top and another size bottom.

Letter from Private Ryan!

We had a letter from Ryan yesterday. He is doing good. He finally got a letter from me. I received two, "return to sender" this week and I was getting very angry. One letter that was sent back to me had been opened and retaped?
He said last week was the best week by far. He did the Gas Chamber last week. He was nervous, but he came through, after gaging and getting sick. But he was able to recite everything he was suppose to before he left the chamber. He has been learning combat with a bayonet, and something that looks like a big q-tip? He also did an obstacle coarse that was the biggest he had ever seen. With hurdles, rope climbing, crawling under barbed wire and lots of mud. He has started to shoot his M-16, which he says he is pretty good at. He has marched in full "rattle Battle" which when completed dressed out, weights about 50lbs. He has 5 more weeks until graduation. He says these last weeks will be marching, camping, more marching and camping.
He says keep on writing and sending those cards.

Oh What Fun!!!

Linda, that's a great idea! No one will notice she's a little different.

Ok...I started my preceptorship this week and it is a blast! I helped deliver 2 babies yesterday, a boy and a girl, and then today worked in the evaluation unit where they are admitted and determined to be in labor or not. They (the other nurses) said I am catching on very quick and think I should work there. I told them to pass the word on to their superiors and one said she already has!!

Shelby lost another tooth today but left it at school. Jamie told her that the tooth fairy doesn't pay up on your word. Ha!

Tomorrow is my last day of school, thank goodness! Especially now that I have a carpet issue to take care of. Last week when we had so much rain, it came in through the floor of the basement (we presume) and soaked 1/4 of the carpet. Now it smells a little foul (moldy)and we've put the house on a "no show" until we resolve the issue. Any ideas??

Reva
Tom and I took Birthday cake and Ice cream over last night to Dad for his birthday. They had Chili/Beans and corn bread for supper (could'nt tell). We got there just at "feeding of the hounds" time. Whatever she was feeding the dogs looked a lot like what they had for supper! Dogs had cake and ice cream too!!
Two of my letters that I had mailed to Ryan came back today, "Return to sender". I don't know why. Lana used the same address I used and he got her's. I am really bummed. I just know he feels like I am not thinking about him.

Kansas Update

This is the beautiful filly I delivered on March 7th. (She's 7 days old in the photo!) She's growing up so fast...

I just got back from Spring Break 08. A couple of sorority sisters and I went down to Corpus Christi, Texas. We had a great time and the weather was beautiful.

Alpha Xi Delta is keeping me very busy and I love it. We have so many philanthropies and functions coming in April!

Pistol had a great 5th birthday... He's a big boy now!

Love and miss you all!

Katie :)

Grandpa's day!

Sounds like we all had a good Easter. Relaxing, yet eventful. Today is Daddies 79th birthday. I talked to Mother last night and he had walked up the street and brought back someones trash (or should I say Treasures). He was in the gargage trying to get a fan to work. I was suprized that mother was not concerned about him walking up the street alone. He walks up to Westlane.
I also talked to one of my parents in the pre-School about Mothers brain shrinking. She is a nurse and her husband is a brain doctor. She said that shrinking is normal for a 80 year old. If you took a poll of 10, 80 year olds, 7-8 of them will have brain shrinking. She said she would be more concerned with the eye problem. Once they have lost their eye sight, they go down fast from there. She had a grandmother with the same disease. She would put on the same cloths with stains on them too, because she could not see the stains or that they were cloths that she had worn for 3 days. When I talked she sounded very perky!
Sisters, I have sent you an e-mail. Check it out.
I agree about the pictures, I too had #2, #7, and # 14 on my list. I think Cheri will choose #38 or #39 of Libby. That will give us a variety.
Jo-D

I can't top that....

So nothing I have is quite so funny.

We had a very quiet weekend for Easter. We participated in the Raymore Annual Easter hunt. Keaton collected ten eggs and said, "that's plenty." I think the park nearby was too appealing. We also had a mini-egg hunt Sunday morning at 6:15am. The flash light in his basket has been a hit. Church was very nice. A little long for Keaton as the baptisms got a little boring because he could not see the babies. I thought it was very quick, since Father Tobin pointed out that it would be much shorter than the three hour service on Saturday night.

In the afternoon, we took a railing off of Keaton's crib as it converts to a toddler bed. He loves it! He now only wakes up once each night versus the two to four times each night. We hope this trend continues as we are beginning to feel much more rested.

This morning I got a frantic call on my way to work as Keaton's head began to spin around and he threw up EVERYWHERE. Apparently, Keaton learned that golf club are meant to be used on the golf course, not for chewing.

Happy Wednesday.

Ellaisms

We have had another interesting language week around the Robertson household. Sometimes tranlating Ellla's comments are a little dicey, but we usually figure things out eventually. Last week, I had taken down the bathroom door to paint. She decided she had to use THAT bathroom and absolutely could not make it upstairs to a different one. She told me it was o.k. for me to see her pee because we were both girls. Boys couldn't watch girls pee and girls couldn't watch boys pee 'cause it would make them scream. Makes sense to me.

On Sunday, during Sunday school, Ella's teacher read a story to them, and she asked what they saw in one of the pictures. Ella says, "Hippies."

We had a rather stressful time getting everyone ready to leave on time Sunday morning. Everyone, but Tony, had a little meltdown at some point in time. Caleb was pouting on the drive to church and Tony told him that he knew that deep down he was really happy and he just needed to find the song in his heart. (This was said with a certain degree of sarcasm. We're not really that sweet.)Ella pipes up," I have a song in my heart, and it is, "We will, we will rock you!" She then proceeded to sing the next few lines of the song.

Bless her heart, she may make us old and gray before our time, but she is definitely entertaining.

Parmenter Easter

We had a great day! A bit on the quiet side, but still good. We went to early church, came home to rest for a while, redressed and went to brunch with the neighbors and the Robertsons. Brunch was great and Sara's kids looked adorable. Caleb mentioned that several people at church told him how handsome his tie was.

Paul and I came home before the egg hunt at the country club. It was snowing quite hard,so the kids had an unusual hunt. This Easter was historic in that we have not had one to fall so early in March since 1923, and won't have another so early until 2228. Fact for the day!

I talked to Mom and Dad last evening. Mom said that Dad did not go to Jodie's yesterday, he stayed home. She asked Dad, "James, did you go to Jo's today? Dad shook his head, "yes". They went there and came home at different times, so I guess that confused her. She did know that they had a wonderful, wonderful day, church was great!

Easter!

OK, Tom and I are back to normal at the Kimbel House. It was great having people over for Easter. We had invited friends that moved here from Olive Branch. Thanks family for making them feel welcome. We all had fun with the kids hunting Easter Eggs. After having our grands and Cheri, along with Harley for the week-end, We are glad to be able to relax. Ryan called but was cut off from Cheri after about 1 minute. He was very emotional. Cheri called just a while ago and he was able to call her back on her cel phone. They still did not get to talk for very long, but at least he was able to call back.(Still emotional).Libby cried all the way home.
Paul I am very jelous, I want a lab top really bad. Coarse, I don't have a wii either.
I hope that all of you had a very Happy Easter. Before Cheri and the kids left, Philip and I were able to write a letter to his Daddy. He wanted to ask his Daddy why he had to sleep with his M-16? "Could'nt you just put it under you bed?" He told him he was doing good in Karate, and that he got his Heeleies this week-end.
By the way, FYI, Wednesday, you can log on to Cheekwood Studio's .com, Code "Jodi", and view my Indiana grankids photo's.

Easter at the Baker House

Ok...Here's what we found out this weekend.
Grandma does not remember what the name of her pet duck was, but Doyle and Jo were both right sort of. The duck's demise came when she was on a trailer (teeter tottering it back and forth) and it got hit and died.

Grandma and Grandpa have never really had any big fights in their 60 years, according to the way they tell it! :) And he tells me that every time I am down there!

Mom found out that they met at the skating rink, and if she had never moved out of her dad's house they probably would had never met. She regrets that she moved out leaving her dad to raise the younger children, but grandpa doesn't. :)

We felt like Grandpa hasn't deteriorated any...asked the same question a few times over the weekend ("Where are we eating lunch at on Sunday?") Mom thought Grandma was a wee better...she remembered what she needed to take to Jo's house for lunch and mom didn't! :)She also remembered that she had taken medicine to Walmart to be filled that had not picked up yet. Not bad. I dusted, wiped down the kitchen, and mom mopped the kitchen floor.

We had a good time playing Wii, hunting Easter Eggs, and visiting with Cheri and the kids. Missed all the rest of you!

Laptop computer

Lana and I are thinking of buying a laptop computer. We are looking for one that we can use when we travel, to keep up with email, blogging which includes downloading vacation pictures. Can anyone tell me how much memory we should look for and what all we would need to connect it at home to our regular computer modem and still use it with wifi we would find in coffee bars and condos? I would appreciate any input.

Beauties I tell ya...

So the girls went tonight and had pictures made. Jamie swears
these are the best people, the best price, and probably the best

pictures we have ever had done of the girls...This one to the right
was one of our faves, Shelby has the look of "Oh great, here she
goes again!" The pose was mom's (Gail) idea but the face was all

Shel!

I will put a few more up tonight and then if I see you this weekend I will give you some too. Too cute!!

well that was fun

jo-d i'm pretty sure it was a trailer tonge that dispatched the little feller , not a see-saw.
and i think it was uncle arvey that was playing on the thing when the duck inadvertantly wandered under the tonge. sorry to say , affleck was not an option.
and while i got jo-d on the line , i think it was lana that said mom was also taking aricept now.
linda was wandering if there is a schedule of dr appointments or just when he wants visits.
you can call me to come done or just send up smoke signals or something. i'll see if linda can get off work for the day. kidding. paul , i'm not all that optimistic about your future, given your advaned age, but caleb looked marvelous. glad to hear from charlie and sue, not sure who
suzie austin is. any way, sue your right that there 's not alot said regarding mom and dad, but lets face facts . what needs to be said is being said. when something happens , it'll hit the
screen as soon as someone feels like it needs to. at least with this blog , there are people at least reading whats going on, even if they can,t call or stop by. i think it 's a wonderful ,wonderful
thing and i'm glad i thought of it ( sorry charlie , just kidding) but i am so glad reva grabbed
the duck by the wings and got the thing up and running. i'm afraid the older folks, like her mother , would have talked it to death , but never made it happen. kuddos.
we do need to get all the other grand kids in the habit.
thats all i got for now . giddy up

The Charlie Baker Bunch lives!

We've had lots going on...CB and I just back from Cardinal Spring Training...a great trip!

I heard someone say recently, about blogging...."I'd rather live my life than spend time at the computer writing about it!" Sometimes I agree....I haven't posted to my own blog since January....not saying the updates here aren't "relevant"...just don't see much about J and AB! FYI - the Charlie Baker Bunch does have the URL and email to post...

From the first post...Most importantly we will be talking about the happenings of the founders of our family, Grandma and Grandpa.I would like to see more of this! Not only what's happening now, but those stories from long before any of us were here, will be gone one day...after my parents died I often found that I had questions for them that I could not get answered...what is your piecrust recipe? How cool were you in high school? When each of us are with Mom and Dad ask them questions, and tape the answers; then transcribe them here! Barring a nuclear disaster this blog will be here for a long time. If we want we can print the stories for a book....

OK - I'll start...AB has always been one of the most gracious people I've met. One example...since CCB was in the NICU then the border room until we brought him home, the doctors wanted us to be especially careful when he came home...NO VISITORS for the first week. Grandma came over to see this sweet little boy (I admit, I'm partial....I'm still partial!). When she wanted to go up to see him I told her "I'm sorry, the doctor said NO VISITORS..." Her simple reply - OK - let me know when I can see him...We visited for a few minutes then she went on her way. No but I'm not a visitor, I'm his grandma!, no other comments....don't think I would have done that if RJB's mom had told ME that!

Did y'all know Mom had a duck as a pet once?

Happy Easter to all! "Thanks be unto God for his unspeakable gift."—2 Corinthians 9:15. [http://www.spurgeon.org/sermons/2247.htm ]

Not a whole lot going on here...3 tests taken in the past two days and 3 tests passed in the past two days. Guess that's somethin'! One more big one this week and then little ones I am not too worried about Friday and next week. ALMOST THERE!

We got a new computer a little while back and somehow it unformatted my camera disc so I do not have any cool new photos to add to my blog today. What a loser, huh?

I'm bummed we still haven't heard from Charlie and his gang. Hopefully they'll get on the bandwagon soon and join us!

Oh yeah, the rest of the fam is good here too.

what gives ?

have i been a bad boy? some what new to the whole computer scene, i thought everybody
lived & died by thier email. hell, i know people in this family that can't speakclearly with out a key board. i got reva's address, but i already had it. thru the blog. i have paul's as well. i guess i could ask my wife for her list , but i just thought it would be easier to have everybody email me ,
and i could add them to my list . silly me . on another note .
linda made me take her out yesterday and play golf with her .
i guess i had an O.K. time . we both did well for the first time out this o8.
talked to mom & dad last night, he again wanted to know if i had his ladders, told him again that i have his old 6ft and his extention ladder was with jo & tom. i'd just soon he would not get on them in the first place , at least not to get on the roof. if he has to get into his garage attic or something, that might be a different story.
lana mentioned someone at church had talked to mom about some program available, and mom told her they would not be needing help, i would like to know more about this program,
and whether or not mom is to independant ,( which we know to be the case) or if she is simply
relying on us ,(jodie) to take care of it . so maybe jo , do you have some more imformation or can get more that maybe we can check into. sounds like something that might work, given the chance.

A Little Lesson

To post a picture:
1. You can see a little icon on the Posting page of the blog. It is next to the Spell Check. If you hover your mouse over it, it will say "add image". Click this icon.

2. You will then hit "browse" near the top of the page. This will allow you to look for your saved picture in your favorite picture saving spot. Mine happens to be on my c:.

3. Double-click your picture. Then hit upload at the bottom. You will have to click a "terms and conditions" button the first time you do it.

4. You will also be able to choose where you want the picture.

I can be reached at (913) 234-2145 during the day if you should need further assistance.

I added another picture of Keaton and one Brian and me as I walked through the steps. The mountains are Maroon Bells in Aspen and Keaton is at the pumpkin patch.

Easter Eggs

Happy St. Patrick's Day!
We had our friends over for Easter Egg dyeing and basketball watching on Saturday. Keaton loved it, Will liked it for a little while and Reese wanted nothing to do with it. I think that Keaton's toys were too much fun. You know, new to him. BTW, if you should get Easter Egg dye on your table, Barkeepers Friend is the best stuff ever. If you don't have any, run out and buy some.
Saturday was just too much for Keaton, we ran out to lunch with Brian's aunt and uncle that were in town from Columbia. When we got home, Keaton decided a nap wasn't a necessity. After the excitement of the day, he crashed at bed time, but was up five times during the night. Needless to say, yesterday, we were all worthless. Dishes didn't get done until 6pm, the dog didn't get walked and I am not sure if I bought all of the groceries we needed. I had my alarm set to go to gym this morning and couldn' t make it out of bed. We all were in bed by 9pm last night.
Hope everyone else had a restful weekend.

CHURCH PROGRAM

I forgot to mention in my last blog that Mom got a call from Mary Lou Nenninger from church. Mary Lou wanted to tell them of a new program whereby persons from church would go into the homes of elder/ill/disabled people to help with medications, meals, errands and such. Mother told her to concentrate on people who really needed looking after, because they could take care of themselves. I'm sure she was very nice when she told this to Mary Lou, at least I hope she was. She is fiercely independent and is insulted when someone intimates that maybe they need help.

E! True Hollywood Stories: The Tooth Fairy

Tony, here. Caleb lost another tooth on Wednesday. Lana pulled it, because neither of us can inflict pain on our offspring in that manner. Lana, you know stuff's gotta be done. Muchas gracias. The tooth went under the pillow, awaiting just compensation. Around our house, because we get so busy and sometimes forget to extend funding to the tooth fairy program in a timely fashion, we have a policy: for each day the tooth fairy does not pay for said tooth, a 25-cent late fee is tacked on to the going rate of $1. It assuages the disappointment, that way.

Well, Friday morning rolls around, I roust the eldest son from his slumber. He heads to the head, and I go grab a buck to slip under the pillow. Sara reminds me of the late fee. I have no coinage on me, so she goes back into our still-darkened bedroom to grab 4 bits. She snags two coins, hands them to me, I quickly slip them under the pillow, with the dollar.

About five minutes later, Caleb brings me an odd-looking coin, and asks why the tooth fairy would give him such. "It says right on it, NO CASH VALUE!", he says.

In the dark and disoriented state of just rising in the morning, the tooth fairy had apparently unwittingly slipped Caleb a carousel token from Columbia Mall.

Hey, beats a car wash token.

Private Ryan!!

Yes we got a letter from Private Ryan this week. He is enjoying himself and learning so much. Last week he road marched for 3 miles and then repelled down a 60 ft. Tower, in a hard, cold rain. He was very proud of himself. Next week they are starting map reading. He will have to study a map and find his food in a forest before he can eat. Ryan has always been very good at reading maps. He started out in C group for running and has moved up to B group. He ran 2 miles in 17 min. He is still platoon leader and has been every since he arrived at Fort Jackson. His drill sargent told him he was going to do fine. He is making new friends which is good. He says he can shine the barracks and clean a latrine like nobodies business. The bay leader has put him in charge of mopping the bay area everday. He should feel like he is at home. Those were his jobs at home too. He says the food is very questionable. He has been sick ever since he has gotten there with a cold. Lana he got you card. He was very excited. He has not recieved any off my mail. I have sent him three letters and a card. I theory is because the return address is a Kimbel and maybe they are holding them until he gets more adjusted to being away. I dont't know. What do you think? At any rate, he says keep writing, he'll get them eventually. Thanks for all of your support and love. Easter will be very hard for him. He said in his last letter that it is very cool to attend church with over 300 soldiers and hear them all singing praise and whorship.

dpne

So I got in a hurry!!

Cakes dpne and so am I

I finished all the cakes, took pictures for the auction, then donated the cakes to the church spring fling bake sale. Worked out perfectly!

Paul and I played nine holes today. Very wet, but the weather was grand. Unfortunately, my game did not magically improve over the winter.

I joined a book club last night and a bible study group. Paul probably is wondering if I'm trying to get away from him. This is truly the way I envisioned retirement. Clubs, volunteering, card clubs, daytrips. Sue Hanner doesn't understand why I'm so content. She has been retired,oh,three months and is already looking for some kind of job. I think about a two day a week job once in a while then I regain my senses and continue what I'm doing.

We had the yard aerated and seeded on Wednesday, then it rained last night. I am so ready to buy plants and shrubs. I have already walked around the yard several times looking for signs of life. Nothing yet.

Ella has had her hair straightened up. I haven't seen it, but it's Ella so it has to be cute, right?

One of Those Moments

On Tuesday night Brian and Keaton had spent some time playing "baseball" in the backyard. As it has been a very long cold winter, Brian had not cleaned up after Sadie so it was rather trecherous to move around back there. Last night, Brian got out the pooper scooper and a plastic bag to clean up. Keaton helped by pointing out where the poop was located. Over and over again, Keaton said "here's more poop or look at all of this poop or there's a lot of poop here." Brian said this was a moment he would really remember. Maybe because it was something that you really never imagined would happen when you have kids.

We are thawing out over here, but know the great weather is short-lived. We are having our friends over on Saturday for Easter Egg dyeing and basketball watching.

Brian and I booked a trip to Scotsdale, AZ, yesterday. I have a meeting from April 2nd - 4th. Brian is coming down on the 4th and we'll stay until Sunday. I am so looking forward to the hot sun.

Off to my meeting. Have a great day!

I played nine holes today and am in midseason form. I sucked as bad today as I did last year at midseason. Seriously though, the Mexico Country Club course is now open for carts and is playable. If any of the Baker clan golfers are ready let me know and we can play here or meet somewhere.

I missed it!

I just realized on my way home from dance that I was missing Biggest Loser! Who left?? I hate that I didn't get to see it, that's my favorite show.

Jo I am feeling much better~after ending up at the doctor's office crying because I felt so bad. She gave me a z-pac? Anyway she felt really bad after I told her that I had called twice the week before and once was told to go to the Urgent care!

Audrey will start working on her duet with Ryan, the owner's son, this weekend. Everyone at the studio is really excited to see how it turns out because they are really cute together. They will have it ready for the next competition hopefully. I will let you all know when that is in case you would like to see it. We got news that the recital will be on the 29th of June, poor Shelby, and will be 2 shows this year. Normally we have 4 shows that are all 3 hours long, but this year with it being a new studio it is shorter and not as many shows. YEAH!

We found out today in class where we will be completing the last 6 weeks of our clinicals. We got to pick our top three choices, and I got exactly what I wanted! Labor and Delivery at St. John's!! I just interviewed there last week for a job so I am hoping that this will be better than a second interview and they'll consider me a shoe in. Pray I don't drop a baby! :) That wouldn't look good.

Tueaday March11

Hey Gail, guess what I discovered, Weight Watchers makes a candy. All kinds. Toffee, cream filled, coconut filled. Great tasting candy. Fred's is going out of busness here in Jackson, and everything is 50% off. I bought 6 bags at $1.15 a piece. They are 1 point for 1 piece. Depending on what you ate that day, you could have several pieces. Great find Huh?
Reva I finally got a wonderful nights sleep last night. I am feeling pretty good now. I hope you are feeling better too. Hope no one else gets sick before Easter. I am excited about seeing the kids again. I have scheduled a photo setting with Cheekwood Studios while they are here. I will have a group made of them so I can send Ryan a picture.
I am looking forward to our trip girls. I can't wait to see those grands too. I hope the weather is pretty. Did we discuss wether we are going to church with them Sunday? Their services start at 9:30, and will last about 1 hr. and 30 min. It really is a beautiful service. Even without instruments.
Katie how are your babies doing?
I better pull Tom in from outside (he is still cleaning up branches) and get supper on. Biggest Loser tonight.
Jo-D

still busy, busy

I have once again put myself in a position that requires some scrambling to get things done(but then here I am on the computer). I volunteered 4 cakes for auction for Saturday. These cakes are for a later time at the buyer's discretion. I have to make 4 cakes just to take pictures for the auction. My friend Sue is coming today and says that she will help. I also have to do 10 pairs of socks for the Spring Fling at the Prespyterian Church. I told Sara I would do them for her because she has a plate full herself.

I went to the dentist this morning for a filling replacement. When I was ready to pay, they told me that there was no charge. Well, we had a mix-up with our insurance, and we are no longer covered by this provider. I guess they felt sorry for Paul and me. Poor retired people with no insurance. Of course, they want us to continue with them when we get everything straightened out.

Our day with the kids yesterday was a good one. Caleb occupied himself and picked up twigs, Ella and Nate played with play dough for a very long time.
Sara got some scrapbooking done.

We will be spending Easter at home this year. I made reservations to have brunch at the country club after church. They always organize an egg hunt for all the kids, so it is a good time. And the brunch is wonderful.

Caroline and Brian are spending their time at home also. Sometimes it is just good to be at home.

HAVE I GOT A DEAL FOR YOU........

IN THIS AUCTION YOU WILL FIND TWO PAIR OF SLIGHTLY TENDERLY WORN SHOES. One is a pair of ankle boots. Dark brown, almost black. They are pull on but then have a fashionable piece of VELCRO that come across and cover the ankle and attaches to the other side. They are about a 8 1/2 or so.

The other is a pair of loafers. They are a light to medium brown and are very soft. they have a rubber sole and look to be in great shape. They, too, are a 8 1/2 or so.

Both pairs were found at the MATRIARCH HOME and are now at the Birk/Baker house. They are free to the home of which they once resided or to anyone else who would like to have them.

Continue to watch my auction, I will be at the MATRIARCH HOME again over Easter weekend. You never know what one might find there.

I, too, am enjoying blogging. I just don't have a lot of time and then my daughter blogs for the household.

Hey, Also go a great house for sale. Also taking suggestions on how to sell a house fast.

I was about to have a cow.

I came home on my lunch break to do a little blogging. I thought I was not going to get through. Darn password had me confused.
I e-mailed Jamie and Carrie yesterday and told them they just had to become bloggers. It was so much fun. We'll see. I also talked to Cheri this morning. She has found a baby sitter until Thursday. Then I don't know what she will do. We got a card from Ryan saturday, he was chosen as his plattoon leader. Thats great huh?
Do you think Doyle and Linda are biting at the bit to get home and blog? Can't wait to here how their trip was.
Caroline, I will miss Keaton at Easter. He is so cute and so funny. I can see why his Nanna loves him. I also wish we could see Sara and Tony's kids as well. Of coarse we will see Ella in a few weeks. Aren't you going to bake cookies while you have all three kids Lana?
I did make reservation at the Holiday Inn at 5903 Universty Dr., I took one room with a king bed and a queen pull out for $129.00 a night and one room with 2 queen beds @119.00. They both come with breakfast vouchers. It has a nice pool. It will be about 25 minutes from Jamie. Maybe!
I went to work today. I feel a lot better than Friday or Saturday. At least I can swallow without pain.
I better get back to work. I'll check after work to see if everyone blogged today.
Love you all. Jo-d

Busy, busy , busy!

Sara's kids did not have school today, so I asked if I could have them for the day.
Paul was thrilled because he thinks they don't come over enough. He has taken all 3 of them to the video store for Wii games, to Wal-Mart for another controller, and to the grocery store.

Caleb wanted some of "those pancakes you make with lemon peel and ricotta cheese", so having been flattered all to heck, I made pancakes. Ella and Paul also wanted an egg. So there I was on a Monday morning after the time change making this huge breakfast. Oh, well when they need you, they just need you.

I have negotiated with Caleb at .50 more than minimum wage to have him wash my baseboards. I thought it was a deal, since I hate washing baseboards. He and Ella are also going to pick up twigs in the yard for .10 a stick. Caleb has dollar signs swimming around in his head. Ella actually would pick up twigs for nothing, but there are child labor laws.

I talked to Keaton this weekend, he was busy rearranging the bottom shelf of Caroline's pantry. He is the cutest kid! He's coming to stay the last wekend in March, I can't wait.

I also talked to Mom and Dad yesterday. They were both very much on their game. They said that they had gone to church and then stayed after for lunch on the grounds. The weather had been nice all day. Dad had changed their clocks the day before, so they were set to go. The snow is all gone, and the dogs are fine.

I have a meeting this afternoon, and then I must get ready for my friend Sue to visit. She and David have finished their job of traveling around doing insurance adjusting after disasters, so she has more time to spend with me.

I hear that me gang is home.

March Madness

Ahhhh, our sad little basketball season is almost over and I will no longer be tortured with the Tigers losing a lead and losing a ballgame. I will, however, be tortured with listening to KU fans talk about their great team and their chances to win the whole thing.

Our weekend was very productive and yet quite boring. I convinced Brian that we should go to a sale at Harolds for new pants for him and walked out with a new shirt and suit for myself. How I managed that one, I do not know and I do not know if I can pull it off again. We (really I) cleaned house the rest of the weekend. It seemed very peaceful last night after Keaton went to bed since the house was so clean. That will last about 24 hours when it is once again destroyed after "school" today.

We also had our weekly trips to Target and the grocery store. Keaton was a hit at Price Chopper, he wore his sunglasses the entire trip. I think he got attention in every aisle.

Have a great week!

Big Changes at the Birk house!

So we took Jamie's car to be inspected last Wednesday and found out it was going to cost more to fix it than what it was worth...so Jamie has a "newer" car that is really cool. It seems to be more for me because it is supercharged, and well he just doesn't drive that way! :) It's an '03 and has less miles than my '05 does. Then mom and I changed cars, so now I have the van and she has my Malibu. It just made more sense to give me the bigger car because all of a sudden the kids seem to have gained a few more decibels! Hope all is well for everyone...talk to you soon.

Reva
I just found my blog from this morning, it is listed as a comment to Paul and Lana's. It makes a difference. It's easier to log on and blog from revabirks web page.
Jodie
I blogged this morning, but I guess it did not go through. I went to the doc. too Reva. I also have a sinus infection. I missed work Friday. Hope I can go tomorrow. Reva you will to go to your graduation. I do not expect anyone to go to Ryan's graduation, though you would certainly be invited. He would just be thrilled to here from everyone. He thought that the girls might want to fish in their lake behind the house. Also there is a skating rink across the road form their subdivision. They have a Saturday morning family skate. I thought we would do crafts and the BIG BIRTHDAY PARTY at their house. I cam looking for small scrapbooks. I had seen them one time when I was buying for my school age for a summer activity. We nees to get reservations soon. We only have three weeks.
We just left Mom and Dad's, They went to church this morning.

What fun!

I have to admit I am like Paul when I look and no one has posted anything new! Get with it people...stop working and cleaning and BLOG! I have had a little free time on my hands this week because we are on spring break, which is almost over, BOO HOO. I took myself to the doctor finally and found out I have a sinus infection. Everyone wanted to know that, huh?

Exciting News from Kansas!

After a sleepless night at the Kansas State University Horse Unit, we welcomed a beautiful baby girl into the world at about 10:30 this morning! It was definitely one of those "this is going to change my life forever" kind of moments. I can't even begin to express what a true joy it was to watch new life enter the world. (I didn't even think it was disgusting for one second!) I know all you with kids probably think I'm kind of nuts but these horses are kind of like my kids right now! It was so wonderful to see the filly take her first breath, to watch her blink and absorb her new world. I don't want to jump the gun but I might have found a career path to follow finally!

Besides foaling, my classes this spring have been pretty great! I'm out at the horse unit all the time training 2 year olds, checking pregnant mares, playing with newborns and always getting put to work! Most of my classes are reproduction related and they're clearly holding my interest! I am taking this one real class (physics) which is kind of a bummer since all I want to do is be outside with my four-legged furry friends!

The weather here has been similar to St. Louis except without the accumulation of snow! It's been sunny and 60 one day and snowy and 20 the next. I'm still not used to this roller coaster Kansas weather!

Pistol is doing great, we're working very hard on his manners. He's a good boy 98% of the time, its just that other 2% I've got to watch out for! His birthday is coming up; I need to get shopping for a present! (He's SO hard to shop for!)

Dad called me yesterday evening from Cancun. They made it safely and I'm sure they're having a fantastic time!

Keep Smiling!

Love, Katie :)

Friday 12:00 noon

Paul and I are thouroughly enjoying the blog. He says that he is disappointed in he checks and there are no new blogs. So this is for Paul. I called Mom this morning, and yes, they did have about 3 inches of snow. Dad had already cleared the drive. She said that they had gone to the grocery store and to dinner last night. She also told me a story about when she was a little girl, and they got up one Easter morning to about a foot of snow. I did indeed put out my big Easter eggs this morning. The yard now looks a bit like spring. I'm going to tell the ladies at my meeting this afternoon how much we are enjoying our blogspot and encourage them to do the same. THANKS, REVA!!

Ella's hair is not so bad. Not good, but at least she left some length to it. She, of course, thinks that it is really cool. She did agree to let Sara put a hair barrett in it this morning. She is very excited about our trip to Alabama, but she did wish that her granny Robertson could go.

Thursday, March 6th

Hey all, Who would have thought this would have been so much fun. Good to hear from Tony and Sara, Caroline and Brian, even Doyle!! Today I took Mom to see Dr. Lee, He said that the MRI shows that her brain is shrinking, Mom ask if that was good. The doc. said...NOOO.
He pulled me out in the hall and told me her memory loss is worse than Dads is. He put her on Aricept too and wants to see her April 10, at 1:40 p.m. We got a letter from Ryan today. He is doing good. He has all of his gear and Uniforms. He actually thinks he looks good in his uniform. He does not have a lot of free time. He is running the mile 9.9 minute. They want hime to loss 23 more pd., which means he is not allowed to eat starches or sweets, also no caffine. Sundays are the hardest for him. He just wants to know that everybody is supporting him. I told him that he and millions of other families are going through the same thing he and Cheri are, and that he can do it. He is very proud and does not regret for a min. that he enlisted. I did give him the baker39.blogspot address. I do not know if he will have access to a computor. This is great and I love it. I have laughed reading everybodies blogs.
We are expected to get SNOW tonight. 3-4 inches. But thats OK, Mom and Dad went to the store today to get Donuts, bread, milk and eggs.

56d learning the ropes

so, i think i'm gettin the hang of this. if any body has any words of wisdom, call my wife
and she should be able to explain it to my daughter well enough, for HER to help me out.
speaking of katie, she's on baby watch at the horse unit. one of her maiden mares is about to
foal. there 's a good chance she'll go tonight, or tomorrow. kate's pretty pumped up.
i've been tring to figure out how to put those cool headings on top of my posts, but have'nt quite got it yet , please be patient with me during this learning period. it'll come to me eventually, then i'll really be bloggin like a pro.
btw jodie, dad called tonight, and wanted to know if i knew where his ladders were again.
i know you and he had talked about them once before, when he wanted to clean his gutters ,
even when they were still full of ice! he spent a good deal of time telling me about all your
branchs and limbs on the ground. gave up on reminding him i'd seen it .
hey. btw. linda (my wife) and i are about to leave for cancun , mexico. i'm not so sure about cell service down there , but we should be able to find someone with one of them new fancy portable computers. i think one of my neices and her husband brian just bought one of'em
anyway , we'll be gone till monday afternoon sometime and we'll try to login if at all poss.
so keep a stiff upper lip and i'll talk to y' all again real soon LOVE YA ALL.

No animals were injured in the writing of this post

Tony and Sara here, Tony typing and Sara editing over my shoulder. Thanks Reva for setting this up. We are doing fine, and can attest that the weather conditions here, less than one mile northwest of Casa De Paul&Lana, are also snow-free, but for some reason, it is about 20 degrees warmer in this part of town. Sorry, that is just an inconvenient truth. The snowfall was oddly patterned in SW MO as well, as Tony's parents got no snow, either, while Springfield and West Plains got dumped on.

Caleb came home with his Math Hall of Fame medal today. He was justly proud of the achievement, though I was disappointed that it did not involve any significant financial compensation. However, academic bling-bling is fashionable for the achiever to sport around the neck. As long as it does not involve his getting "grillz."

Ella is sporting a new hairstyle these days. Not by our choice, mind you, she had taken it upon herself to hack off some of her own locks the other night down in the basement. She also managed to cut her t-shirt, her jeans, and socks. Discussion then ensued in which she was reminded that scissors are for paper, and paper only.

Nate's vocabulary continues to expand, albeit slowly. His latest addition: "Mooooove!", usually accompanied by a vigorous nudge. Sara seems to think he is smarter than his limited vocabulary would indicate, with some of the things he figures out. Like unscrewing (not just popping open, but actually unscrewing) the cap on the lotion, coming to tell us our freezer is leaking. And, lo and behold, when I got on here, little man has his own blog. We had no idea he held such devout political beliefs. And I thought the Whig Party passed into oblivion long ago. Oh well.

All for now. Robertsons, out.

So glad...by Reva

I am so glad everyone is enjoying this! I have enjoyed reading everyone's post, but we need to make sure that everyone else knows about it. I sent an email to Sue and mom said that Charlie called her today but wasn't able to get on. Lana and Jo might need to forward him my instructions! :) I want to make sure that Chris and Jen are also aware of what we're doing but I do not have their email addresses...

Interview went well, so now we wait! Only 3 more weeks of class and it was just emailed out today that graduation will be on the 9th of May at 1pm (odd) at the Chase Park Plaza. Ryan's graduation from boot camp will be the same day so I understand some will travel. I told Jamie I didn't even care if I went to mine since it is my second career! :) We have a dance competition that weekend and then

DISNEY HERE WE COME!!

Well, I did this once today.

For those of you who got snow yesterday, I'm so sorry!! We got nary a flake and had sunny skies all day. Don't get me wrong, I love snow, but I'm ready to dig in the dirt and snow gets in the way. It is time to put the Easter eggs in the yard. I've held off for a while, thought they would look a little weird in the snow. We've had some every few days. This one missed us. Woo Hoo!!

You would all be very proud of Paul and me. We installed cabinets and a countertop on our porch today. There's room for the drink fridge and our recycling. We keep going out there to look at it. At least its not made of Lincoln Logs.

Doyle, we finally got the dent in the back door of the van fixed.

We thought about going to the movies tonight, but then remembered that American Idol is on tonight. We have not watched a single episode of any of the reality TV shows, but for some reason we're hooked on this season
's Idol. We've already had our leftovers for dinner and are about to put our jammies on.(It is after all 6:32pm) Haven't talked to Mom and Dad today, better go do that.
LC

From the West Side of the State

Hey! I love this. I had hoped this was what might happen, everyone providing updates of family events and such. Here is a run down of mine whether you are interested or not....
I just spent lunch with Brian at Best Buy buying a laptop. BTW, I have been told for five years that there was no reason to have a computer at home since I have one at work and Brian has one at work. Since Brian decided he now needs one at home, we can now buy one. Anyway, it was excruciating! He was completely surprised by the cost although I had told him that the actual computer was just the beginning and all of the software would quickly add up. He actually asked me if I could live without Microsoft Office for a while although he had a program ready to buy in his hot little hands.
On the home front, Brian and I have become master architects, Lincoln Logs being our specialty. We have been trying to limit the amount of TV and since we much see much less Dora the Explorer and Go Diego Go (yes, Sara, I know you have a problem with those children running around the jungle unsupervised) we must provide constant entertainment for "Teaton Miemeyer." That being said, the TV rarely comes on at our house so I cannot talk about the great performance by the guy from Blue Springs, MO on American Idol. Hope all is well.

Caroline
well look who's on the key board ! yep. Its ole Doyle. come on now, close your mouths.
pigs are gonna fly later this afternoon too. this is so much fun. good thing i got two good fingers to do this with. you guys using all those other fingers are way are probably way older than me.
anyway' just wanted to see how this contraption worked , hope i did good.

Jamie is outside shoveling and measured while he was out there. From 9:15am to 3:15pm we have received 10 inches in Florissant. It has been blizzard-like all day! The kids are just eating it~
Tomorrow I have a first line interview for my dream job so cross your fingers! 16 spots are available for the fellowship but I am not sure how many exactly they have interviewed.

Reva
Thanks Reva for getting me through this. You kids are smarter than we are.
Today is another Ice day for us. I checked to see if Mom and Dad still had power. Yep, Yep!!
I went over Saturday to refill Mom and Dad's Med. boxes and I quote... " I did not like that so I took the pills out and put them back in the bottles" OK, you gotta love em!!
Ryan called last night. He only had a minute, but he is doing good. He went to church Sunday and that was difficut. He said he is starting to have fun. What ever that means.
We took the kids to Mt. Vernon on Sunday to meet Cheri. When CHeri pulled up into the driveway, Libby got excited to see her Daddy. Cheri told her he was at work!!! She excepted that for now. I told Cheri to get some pictures out of Ryan right now. She said Oh she won't forget him.
Gail, I can take Mom and Dad to her doc. appt. I'll just take a few hrs. off that day. Maybe I will take a recorder. Oh what the hell, maybe I'll take all day off. At least the morning.
Blog me guys!!
Jodie
Hey Guys, I got in. Well anyhow, I thought I was going to get to come down to take Mom to the Dr. but I am not going to be able to get off work. It is going to be difficult until I am able to quit this other job. Let me know if anyone can go. If there isn't anyone then I will just make it happen. Thanks, happy blogging. Love you all, Gail

Sunday, March 2, 2008

Jodie took Phillip and Libby to meet Cherie today. She says it went well. She will have Ashley and Julie week after next. Caleb's playstation 2 quit working, he's in mourning, and trying to figure out how to get a new one. He has to buy it himself. PAUL PLAYED GOLF TODAY!!
Lana
Shelby had her first competition of the year yesterday and it went well. Her group got 4th for one dance and 1st for the other. Too bad they were the only ones in the category! :)
